We cooked three delicious dishes with Grandma Shyama, who carefully explained each step, and Tushar gave us recipe cards to take notes and try them at home. Then we got to enjoy everything we’d made, which was wonderful. The kitchen was immaculately clean, and we could see why Grandma Shyama is so highly rated: she’s taught chefs from around the world, including Michelin-star chefs. It felt like a real honor to learn from her. From the clear pre-class instructions to the welcome drink at Silverweed, everything was thoughtfully organized and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Tushar and Shyama were warm, attentive hosts who had considered all the little details. They even helped us sort out a booking problem with another place. We had a brilliant experience and would highly recommend them. If we return to Fort Cochi, we know where we’ll stay.

Tushar’s local tips helped me see parts of Fort Kochi beyond the usual tourist spots, and he’s a funny, engaging conversationalist. Syama and Tushar both made a real effort to make me comfortable and cared for. The house feels peaceful and is very clean and organized, right down to the regularly washed mats. Syama has managed things beautifully for 16 years, and her love of plants shows in the lush green yard. Her food is delicious and clearly made with care. There’s even a talking parrot that entertains everyone with “Sundari bawe” (beautiful girl) and “Chakara kuta” (sweet boy). Silverweed Homestay is run by 70-year-old Syama and her grandson Tushar, and their warmth gives the place a homely charm. A lovely, cozy option in Fort Kochi.

Kerala was new to me, and the visit turned out to be wonderful. We were welcomed so warmly, and the traditional dishes were taught with care, along with useful tips. I’d love to return to this area and learn some more dishes. Thank you again.

We spent two nights at Silverweed and found it peaceful despite being so centrally located. The room and bathroom were clean and cozy, and the big balcony stayed cooler than the streets, thanks to all the beautiful plants. Tushar and his grandmother were around whenever needed, but never intrusive. It has a really homely feel, and I highly recommend this beautiful home.

The family made a strong impression with how kind and welcoming they were, and how connected they are to their culture. At Silverweed Homestay, I learned a lot about traditional Hindu recipes from the Nair community. They shared their knowledge with real generosity and care. It’s one of the best Kerala-style cooking studios and homestays I’ve experienced.
