My experience with the reception was so bad that I’d give zero stars if I could. The woman answering calls was rude, repeatedly hung up on me, and wouldn’t give information about room prices or options. When I said I’d complain, she seemed completely unconcerned. I had to email to get the rates, and the management’s messages, including one from Mrs Rose, neither took responsibility nor apologized. This happened before I stayed, but it was enough to put me off. I haven’t posted a negative review for a hotel I never visited before, but this customer service told me what to expect. The management replied by calling the interaction polite and calm and referring to busy times and staff shortages. That doesn’t excuse treating potential customers this way or making claims that don’t match what happened. They should own the mistake and apologize. The response felt defensive, and other one-star reviews also show a lack of accountability. I’d choose a well-regarded four- or five-star hotel that values customer service.

The hotel sits close to everything you need in Fort Kochi, and auto tuk tuks are available if you want to go farther. We loved its old-world feel, with timber floors, antique details and a lovingly restored building. There are quirks that come with it: no lift, old pipes, and you need to keep shower water off the floor. A leak in our shower led to us being moved to another room, with the price difference refunded. The staff are lovely. If you’re after a thoroughly modern place, this may not suit you, but we really enjoyed the charm.

The staff and management made us feel welcome and helped us throughout the stay. The Old Courtyard is a peaceful spot in the middle of Fort Kochi, especially nice if you enjoy history and an old-world atmosphere. The building is full of character, from its beautiful architecture and antique furniture to the artwork and decor. Each corner seems to have its own story. I absolutely loved staying here.
