I loved the hotel's atmosphere, with its sense of history everywhere. The owner and his team have preserved its historic character while taking thoughtful care to provide good service. What makes the place special is their kind hearts and talent, which you can feel at the evening concerts of soulful Kerala songs. I was absolutely delighted!
The team were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect. It's a shame, because this is a beautiful old house with so much history. But the rooms were terrible for the price we paid, with little upkeep or management. Ours was dusty and had cobwebs, and the basic bathroom had no hot water. The shower didn't work, so we had to use the bucket. The bathroom and toilet didn't seem to have been cleaned in a while, and even the mirror was covered in scum. There was no ventilation in the room, so thank goodness for the air conditioning.
The host was welcoming, very kind, and always ready to help. Our rooms were basic but spacious and comfortable, and the lovely courtyard garden was the cherry on top. This was our first stop in India and it was so relaxing that we ended up staying an extra night.
The hall is lovely and spacious, and they have karaoke in the evenings. Whether that's a plus or a downside depends on what you like. The rooms, though, weren't a great place to stay: they were dirty, the shower was dirty too, and we found hair on the bed linen. One room also had cockroaches.
The host was very rude when I raised the problems and told me to cancel the booking. The room was awful: although the listed amenities said AC would be provided, they only have a few AC rooms and gave us a non-AC one. There was a live cockroach, cobwebs here and there, and the bathroom equipment was extremely unclean and needed plumbing. A really bad experience.
