Zostel Kochi (Fort Kochi)

The rooms were simple but well maintained, and the bathroom was decent and cleaned every day. I had a 10/10 stay at Zostel Fort Kochi. It’s centrally located for getting around Fort Kochi, and I felt safe there. The staff were helpful and seemed keen to make sure guests had a good time. I’d recommend THIS zostel to everyone.

The location is the hostel’s strongest point. Most sights, cafes, Jew Town shopping, and a laundry service are conveniently close. The staff were also kind: on our second night, after we reported the hot water problem, the receptionist went out of their way to find us a bucket of hot water elsewhere. I spent two nights in a dorm, and there were some frustrating problems. I’d been assured by phone that parking was available, but there was no dedicated space when I arrived, so I left my car on a nearby street and felt uneasy about it. We were told there’d be hot water, but it went cold after one bucket, and the same thing happened the next evening after we’d already had to take cold showers the first night. The bathroom also got very steamy when the hot water was used, leaving the floor slick and sticky enough that indoor slippers felt necessary. With the location and service, it was a decent stay despite the amenity issues.

I met Nigeen, Praveen, and other backpackers from all kinds of backgrounds, and never felt left out. That made my first solo trip to Cochin feel even better. It was also my first time at Zostel, and the stay made things feel easy and comfortable. Everyone on staff was friendly and polite. Sijin suggested some great activities from the first day, especially the 3am Kayaking and Bioluminescence spotting. I’m glad I went! :)

The hosts were helpful, which was the one good part for me. The private room felt cramped, and the common area right outside stayed noisy until 2-3 AM, making it hard to sleep after long days. Some room lights didn’t work, and once we put in a couple of trolleys there was hardly any space to move around. I was disappointed, especially given the hefty price. It fell well short of what I expected based on other zostel stays.
