At midnight, people from outside disturbed the guests, and the staff seemed helpless and couldn't do anything. I had a very bad experience at Dunia Guest House.
I complained about the dirty room, but it took almost five hours after check-in for them to clean it. The sheets, pillowcase, and blanket cover still weren't changed, no matter how often I asked. When I spoke to the receptionist, she said they had all been changed before I arrived. The rooms were really filthy, and this was an absolutely horrible stay. Please don't stay here, however bad your situation is.
They gave me an unwashed, used bedsheet. The room boy was very rude and came into the room after knocking without getting permission. This lodge doesn't feel suitable or safe for families.
The bed was okay, the bathroom water supply was good, and the bathroom was moderately clean. The receptionist gave me five mosquito repellent incense sticks, one still unused, which I left in the room for them. She also gave me a Dettol soap for the bathroom. Even with those few positives, the stay wasn't pleasant. I was in Kolkata for a day because my spouse was having medical treatment, and the place was inconvenient. It's about 900 meters from Hazra Crossing and Jatin Das Metro, down a dingy side street. I paid Rs-1240/- for a very small ground floor room because my wife was unwell, and the bathroom was outside the room rather than attached. The TV didn't work, including its remote, and the fan ran at full speed without pushing much air. There were billions of mosquitoes during dengue season, and the wall clock was stuck at 7.45. There was no drinking water facility. Bottled water cost Rs.10/- extra per bottle. I bought a 2-liter bottle once for Rs-40/-, and the receptionist kept arguing with me about paying that Rs-40/-. After that I got a 5-liter jar outside for quite a bit less. There weren't good food options nearby either. And if the power goes out, there's no backup, so the room gets completely dark and hot. The receptionist was the biggest problem. She argued illogically about every issue, acted as if she were running a Taj or Oberoi, and had lame excuses for everything. She was irritating and didn't seem to understand the problems.
Har Prasad was really nice, very humble, and gave good service in rooms 402 and 403.
