We’d planned a one-night family visit, but ended up staying two nights, or three days. I booked online through Google Maps using the lowest rate on the hotel site, not through goibibo, ixigo, oyo, or trivago. We arrived in the evening and checked in at Hotel Roland, about 80 meters away. It’s a higher-budget place with better amenities. After the procedures, we got to our room, which was clean and had good facilities: a geizer, hair drier, separate bath cabin, soaps, toothbrush, paste, cold drinks, mineral water, good bed, towels, and lights. For a family, though, I felt the room could have been a bit larger. Nearby shops made it easy to walk around in the evening, and the caretaker, 'Dada', was humble, responsible, and very helpful. The location is good for visiting Victoria, science city, park street, Dharmatala, and other places, but not Eco park at salt city. The dishes felt a bit costly compared with restaurants. Overall, I loved the place very much.

Emerald suites was a gem in Kolkata. The caretaker Babu was friendly and helpful, and served me some amazing tea. My room was clean and comfortable. I’d recommend it for a short family stay.

Getting there could be awkward at times, since Uber drivers and tuk-tuks sometimes struggled to reach the location. The service was dependable, though a little slow. Our room was fine, but extra space would have been nice. The complimentary “snacks” were just two tiny instant coffee packets and two tea bags, which felt like an overstatement.

The location worked well: Minto Park is about 1 km away, and the nearest bus stop is only 200 metres away. Our room and bathroom were clean, with fresh towels and basic toiletries provided. The visitor rule was odd, though. A friend came by for a while and reception called to say visitors weren't allowed, even though I'd booked for two people. They seem to record the number of people checking in, and don't allow later visitors even if the booking is for two.

The caretaker is the main reason I'd rate the place a 3. The area itself is fantastic, and the place is good, but he seemed to be taking advantage of guests. We ordered a few cups of tea, each under 100 ml, and they cost Rs 50. Around 8 pm, I rang the bell several times, then kept ringing until he finally came to open the door.
