Holiday Inn Express Kolkata New Town by IHG

I spent a week at Holiday Inn and was comfortable throughout. The accommodation was well maintained, and Subhendu Kumar Mal and Rima from Food & Beverage made a real difference. They were reliable, quick to respond, and handled requests efficiently without follow-ups. Their calm, professional manner and attention to small details helped make the 7-day stay more enjoyable. Routine service and extra requests were both managed smoothly. Their ownership, teamwork, and commitment to guest satisfaction were clear. Thank you guys… My only small drawback was the food. Breakfast and dinner felt repetitive, with similar menus on alternate days.

The chicken biryani I ordered through room service cost ₹550 and came with just one piece of chicken. At that price I expected a little more generosity in the biryani department. Still, my stay at Holiday Inn Express was comfortable and smooth. The room was spotless, the essentials were there, the AC kept it cool, and hot water worked without fuss. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day and worth getting up for. Staff were professional and cordial, and the hotel delivered on convenience and comfort.

The room service food was a bright spot. The Veggie Pizza had eight pieces, plenty of corn, onion, capsicum, and paneer, with cheese that pulled nicely. Mix Veg Sabzi came with salad and four rotis, and both the tiffin and the taste were amazing. Breakfast, by comparison, was average. There was bread, sandwiches, jam bread, three drinks such as juice or Chaas, tea and coffee, idly, pav bhaji, and matar kulcha. It tasted decent, though the sambar wasn’t hot enough. Holiday Inn Express is in New Town, near Biswa Bangla circle. It’s a business hotel with modern room amenities and a small, plain lobby. The Standard room was a decent size, with the washbasin in the room and separate bathing and toilet areas. Overall, a decent stay for the price.

On another stay here, I went down for dinner and found the watermelon was stale. I told the staff and left without eating. Back in the room, I noticed someone’s used hair band hanging in the shower area. After taking a shower, I found there was no bath towel, only a hand towel. At 1040pm I called reception and explained it all to MOUMITA. She said the manager would call in 10 minutes, but I wasn’t surprised when no call came. After 25 minutes, at 1105, I rang Moumita again. She said the manager was busy dealing with other guests because the hotel’s A/C wasn’t working. I’d just come off a 17 hour flight, was jet lagged, and fell asleep. I’ve had multiple problems at this hotel before and never filed a complaint, but repeated mistakes have become a habit. I’m sharing this so you can choose your stay accordingly.
