We came for a friend’s wedding in Kolkata and stayed a week. Humidity was the biggest problem, especially in the bedsheets, and we ended up with sore throats. The rooms were very dirty, with dust everywhere and lots of mold in the bathroom and shower. When we asked for more cleaning, staff barely helped. There was also a mouse in one of our group’s rooms. We had to ask repeatedly before our bin was emptied, and that didn’t happen until the fourth day. After three days, staff seemed surprised when I asked for another toilet roll and more water. The hairdryer was so small it barely dried anything. When I requested more hangers for my clothes, I was told I could have only two extra. Hangers for a guest’s outfits shouldn’t be a negotiation. Road traffic near the room made sleep even harder. The hotel needs to rethink its cleaning policy. A deep clean and regular upkeep could address this unacceptable standard.

The surprise for us was that visitors weren’t welcome. My wife and I were staying because my father was in a nearby hospital, so friends and family came to see us. They were discouraged from coming to our room so often that we eventually asked them to stop. This wasn’t made clear in the information on Agoda, if it was there at all. Apart from that, the price was fair and there wasn’t much to complain about. Our upstairs suite was spacious and well lit, and the staff were courteous and quick to help. WiFi worked well except for the first night, when an optical fiber problem knocked it out. The staff worked hard to restore it, even after midnight. There was an electric kettle, but no hairdryer or microwave in the room. Staff did heat our food in the kitchen downstairs when we asked. The kitchen was good, if not spectacular, and room service was mostly on time. We parked on the street beside the hotel without trouble, and the security gentleman was always helpful with the car.

We had a room on the top floor, and it was good. The complimentary breakfast buffet was good too. Bhandari was especially helpful, checking in on us, helping us find places, and treating us very well.

The staff were good, but I couldn’t sleep all night because of the day noise. The place itself is quiet and away from traffic, and I saw other guests complaining about the same thing the next morning. My room was small even though I paid for an executive one. They said room size depends on occupancy, and the AC wasn’t cooling properly. Complimentary breakfast is served downstairs between 8 and 10 am, not in the room. There’s also an in-house kitchen where you can order food.

The restaurant had a good range of tasty food and the service there was excellent. The hotel is also well placed for nearby attractions and public transport. From arrival, the staff were welcoming and attentive. My room was spotless, thoughtfully set up, and very comfortable. I liked the fresh linen, complimentary refreshments, and quick room service. It was a really wonderful stay.
