Monovilla Inn

The AC feels like a showpiece to attract guests. There's a main control switch at reception, and they keep it fixed on auto off. It runs, but doesn't cool. After late night, cooling was 000%. When I complained, they said it would start cooling after 3 to 4 hours, but it was in vain. If you're thinking of booking, make sure to check about the AC.

The aircon was loud, and barking dogs in the street kept us awake. The beds were so dirty that I wouldn't use their blanket. I was told the bathroom sink had been filled with pan spit by the manager, who had occupied the room before we checked in late at night. I called to have it unclogged and cleaned, but cleaned the bathroom myself before letting my little daughter in. A horrible place. I wish I could give it a negative rating. That's what I learned from going by the review in lonely planet.

The room was spacious, and the guest house is close to shopping malls. Breakfast was decent, and getting food delivered there is easy. It's a new guest house, really an apartment converted by the owner. The manager is helpful and always available, though there's only one staff member.

It was easy to find and only a few kilometers from places you might want to see, like Victoria memorial, St Pauul's Cathedral, Planeterium and the Howrah railway station. The place was clean, and the staff were courteous and treated us very nicely.
