OYO 5697 New Town

Getting around was a hassle because the place is far from the nearby market. The restaurant there wasn’t useful, so even small needs meant going a long way and arranging a vehicle. The breakfast was awful. For 250 RS a day, they only gave bananas each morning, with no variety or anything else. When I asked, they said the cook was on leave, and there was no refund of the amount I’d paid upfront. Oyo’s app recommended it as 4.7 star with WiFi and intercom, but neither worked. I’m sorry to say the Oyo staff at the hotel didn’t respond either.

I went to see my mother while she was in Kolkata for work. The staff were really nice and helpful, and gave clear timings for food, which was useful. The Wi-Fi worked as usual. Rooms were a little small, but nothing to worry about.

The room didn’t match what was shown on oyo’s site, and the bathroom exhaust fan wasn’t working. One staff member who handled my check-in was arrogant the whole time. They also discourage online payment and don’t let you order food from outside, even though the food they serve is poor quality. A bad experience all around.

The staff were supportive and well behaved, so I never felt uncomfortable with them. The location is about 3-4 minutes from Narkel-Bagan by Toto, and the food was good, though a little expensive for the portions. The room and washroom were clean and hygienic enough. The main problem was the beds. They put two single beds together, and the blankets were single too. That left us with a bad memory, and we didn’t expect it from OYO. The window AC also took a while to cool the room. There was no power backup, and we had a load shedding after entering the room. The door had no extra lock. Poor overall, not good.
