The Stay by OYO Rooms

We stayed three nights after touring West Bengal, and it was a great way to end our holiday. The location was good, the staff were helpful, and the bar downstairs had a friendly atmosphere. Our spacious room had everything you'd expect from a good hotel, including a comfortable bed, effective air conditioning, and good amenities. I'd happily recommend it to anyone visiting Kolkata.

For 2,800 a night, this felt like a rip-off, and the Treebo ads were far from reality. The staff were good, but couldn't change my mind about writing this review. The hotel's on the 5th and 6th floors of a commercial complex, and the dining room was right outside my room. Breakfast was a joke. The location is very good, but the good points stop there. The lift was dingy and kept getting stuck between the 1st and 2nd floors, and reception was tiny. My room was maghony and had a living room, but it smelled, the window glass was stained, the flush leaked, and the bathroom had only bare necessities. Avoid it.

The rooms are decent, but the dining setup is basically food and utensils in the passage, with waste scattered on the floor just outside your door. There's no real dining area, and the passage only fits six people, so guests end up playing musical chairs. The hotel really isn't equipped to handle more than 6-8 check-ins at once. Skip it.

I had a spacious room with a good view and no disturbances, and the room service was punctual throughout my six-day stay, though there could sometimes be disturbance. The Wi-Fi was good enough for office work, with no daily limit like the roughly 50 MB at places such as Indismart. I was able to remotely use a PC in Mumbai and get my work done, staying online for at least 3-4 hours. The staff were pleasant, and the location was safe and quiet, in the IT district with evening activity nearby. Opium, an excellent restaurant, was next door, and there was a cinema at the intersection and a nice lakeside spot to catch the evening breeze. Breakfast was simple and adequate, though there wasn't much variety.
