Soma Palmshore Resort

We came back to this resort for a second visit. Its private beach is a big plus, and Lighthouse Beach is also within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean, and we liked the food. The restaurant service was a little slow, though, and our two vegetable dishes didn’t arrive together. One came after we’d finished dinner.

The pool was clean, well maintained, and faces the beach. The resort also has its own small private beach front, and the sea is right outside the property. The lighthouse is next door and easy to walk to, as is the main Kovalam beach, which can be crowded. I stayed for two nights, November 25-27, 2025. The rooms feel a little outdated for current needs, but they’re manageable, and housekeeping was prompt and polite. They offer a buffet for about 900 rupees per person, though I’d choose the à la carte menu. The food was decent and cooked from scratch, so expect at least 30 minutes after ordering. Ayurveda is a focus here, with several kinds of massage available. There’s no elevator, and the restaurant is two floors below reception. That could be hard for older people with knee problems going down and back up, so keep it in mind when booking. Room service is an option.

I spent three weeks in a Panchakarma program at Soma Palmshore in Kovalam and felt well cared for professionally from day one. The doctors checked in with me every day before treatment, assessed how I was doing, discussed the process, and explained the next therapy. That steady medical guidance felt reassuring and very professional. The resort sits right on the beach and is beautiful. The food was very good, Ayurvedic, and easy to digest, and the staff were friendly, respectful, and organized. I also liked the mix of people there for Ayurveda and other guests. It made the beach atmosphere relaxed and balanced, rather than making the place feel like an isolated retreat. The therapies, including Shirodhara, Pizhichil, Abhyanga, and other traditional applications, were done calmly and carefully. The approach felt classically Ayurvedic, with real knowledge and experience behind it, not something done by rote. To me, it was clear that Kerala is the cradle of Ayurveda and that the tradition is truly practiced here. The therapists were attentive and present, and their small thoughtful touches helped create a sense of safety and deep relaxation. I especially valued that mix of professional skill and human warmth. Soma Palmshore gave me a place where I felt safely supported and medically guided over several weeks. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking authentic classical Ayurveda in a calm, natural setting.

Room service and restaurant service could be better. It seemed like there weren’t enough staff to handle the weekend rush. Still, the scenic beach, natural views, and swimming pool are amazing. The property has its own private beach and rooms with great sea views. A place worth visiting.
