The rooms are small, but fair for the price, and the ACs could use servicing. Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s on a narrow street near the temple, which makes it convenient for a short stay. For a 2-3 day visit to Kumbakonam, it’s a good option. Having a vegetarian restaurant nearby is a plus.

Hotel Metro is in Kumbakonam town, near Sarangapani Temple. A double room costs around ₹1600, with ₹280 extra for another person. The rooms are quite spacious, with hot water and air conditioning, and the overall hygiene is average. The room quality matches the price, so it’s a reasonable deal for a short stay.

The main thing going for this hotel is its easy-to-reach location. We took local buses to the nearby temples. For food, Gowrikkrishna hotel (South indian and chinese) and Mangalambika coffee house (South indian simple food low cost) were the best eateries. As for the rooms, the sheets made all of us itchy on the first night, so we asked for fresh ones the next morning. There was food splattered on the walls from the previous occupant, and they didn’t clean it. The bed is right against a wall that smelled of urine. The room and shelves aren’t kept neatly, and the bathroom was just okay and could have been cleaner. The toilet water rises to about mid level while pooping, but it does flush well. There’s some plumbing issue too. The rooms are okay, but take them at your own risk.

The service was the worst. The receptionist, durga, was very rude and acted as if we were staying for free. Whenever we left the room to visit the temple, they switched off the AC and didn’t turn it back on. We had to remind them every time, and they didn’t care about the customer. The bathrooms were dirty and stinky, and the ground staff acted like they were doing us a favor. A totally bad experience, not worth staying. The owner doesn’t care about customer feedback.
