Raya's Grand

I still remember how uncomfortable it felt to be stopped by three or four people while walking around the hotel premises. They asked for my room number, and I couldn't understand why. It made me feel as if they suspected I wasn't a guest. I've stayed in many five-star hotels and never had staff treat me that way. If the owner sees this, please look into it. I was visiting Kumbakonam as an NRI and stayed here about ten years ago. The hotel itself was nice, but the way customers were treated bothered me enough that I've wanted to write this for a long time. I don't know what it's like now, but back then it felt bad and not worth staying in, given what I saw as the staff's suspicious and cheap attitude. I'll post pictures later.

Parking was good, and the hotel is close to several temples. The room itself was spacious, but construction outside meant the bedroom window looked onto nothing but an asbestos sheet. We still paid full price, with no discount. Room cleaning was another hassle. They said they wouldn't clean while we were out, so we had to let them in and stay in the room for 20 minutes. We only managed to get it cleaned twice during our five-day stay. After each service, including housekeeping, someone would wait outside for a tip. With the high rent, that felt unprofessional. They expect tips for every little thing, and the customer service was pathetic.

Being close to the bus stop made getting around easy, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The staff were welcoming and professional, especially the helpful boy who was so kind to us. Our room at Rayas Grand, Kumbakonam was roomy and comfortable. I'd recommend it for a relaxing stay.

What made the stay memorable was the food packed for our train journey. It was hygienically packed, well organized, and such a thoughtful touch. My husband and I also had a comfortable, hassle-free visit, with clean, peaceful rooms and a polite, professional team from reception to room service and housekeeping. Raya’s Grand, Kumbakonam is conveniently placed near the sacred Mahamagam Tank and major temples, which was especially useful for devotees and travelers. We found it a very comforting place to stay and would highly recommend it.
