Ferndale Homestay

There’s a shared open balcony-style space for sitting and relaxing with friends or family. Ferndale Homestay is just inside the main road and close to the main Thekkady junction. Our rooms and bathrooms were clean and maintained well, and solar hot water was available. There’s no kitchen or breakfast, though morning tea or coffee is available. The host was welcoming, polite and friendly.

The uncle and aunt looked after us so kindly, and helped plan sightseeing as well as arrange tickets for the Kalaripayattu and Kathakali shows. The location is excellent, and the rooms were spotless and well maintained. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this Thekkady homestay.

Uncle Dexter Fernandez went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and safe. He helped with bookings for Periyar Sanctuary, Kalaripayattu and Kathakali, and gave us tips on local eateries, bakeries and shopping. The couple who own the homestay are warm and caring, and the rooms are cozy, spacious and clean, upstairs on the first floor. There’s greenery around, a dining table on the veranda and geysers in the toilets. Meals aren’t included, but we ordered delicious food from nearby places. At ₹1,200 per night, it’s a peaceful place to stay and feel at home.

We loved our two nights here. Our tour agency driver, Ragesh wariar, was uncooperative and hot-tempered, and didn’t help us get around local places. Uncle Dexter Fernandez really stepped in: he shared good bakeries, lunch and dinner spots, shops for Kerala sarees and advice on booking Periyar Sanctuary tickets. He even sent me the locations on WA, arranged an auto for market shopping and kept looking out for us until we got home safely. He practically spoon-fed me like a parent. The stay itself was cozy and friendly. Thank you, uncle, for making us comfortable.
