Kerala House

The host was polite and very helpful, even keeping my small bag for a couple of days after checkout while I went off for an activity. Breakfast was homely and delicious, with idli and plain dosa, chutney, and sambhar. The room and attached washroom were exceptionally clean. It’s a nice place, with spacious rooms and forest views from the balcony.

I’m writing this while still here, and it feels like staying beside Jurassic park. The Tiger reserve forest is right behind the property, just like in the photos, and the view is beautiful. The room is simple and super clean. There’s no AC, but it stays so cool that I don’t think one is needed. A fan is enough, and I actually switched it off at night. Even the floor feels cold. The host is humble and supportive. There’s no food setup in the house, though you’ll find lots of places to eat as soon as you step out. We did have short power cuts in the early evening. There is a generator, but somehow the power still failed for a little while before coming back. It was a wonderful stay overall.

The balcony has an amazing forest view, and the market is an easy walk away. Shibu sir, the caretaker, was very supportive and humble. The rooms were spacious and clean, and for the price I found this better than the fancy resorts or hotels in Thekkady. This was one of the best stays on my Kerala trip. I’d choose Kerala House homestay again if I return to Thekkady, and recommend it for trips with friends or family.

The owner was a real gentleman and always ready to help with whatever we needed. Our room was large, clean, and well maintained. I’d suggest choosing a forest-view room on the first or second floor. From the balcony we saw plenty of wildlife. On the first night there was one bison (Gaur), then the next evening a herd of five. We also spotted Sambar deer, and a family of wild boars made an appearance with six little ones. It’s an excellent homestay with a grand view of the forest.
