Konark Homestay

The view is amazing. Early in the morning we could see Gaur (Indian Bison), deer, and birds. The rooms are large, simple, clean, and budget friendly, and it’s an easy walk to Periyar Tiger Reserves. The bathroom could use some improvements. It was very clean and had hot water, but the handheld bidet wasn’t in good condition. They could also provide soap and two clean towels for two guests. If you want a simple, tidy hotel, I’d recommend it.

The room was especially spacious, clean, and thoughtfully decorated, and the shower was the best we’ve used. From the balcony, we looked straight into the reserve and saw wild boar, sambar deer, and lots of birds. We were told a herd of bison is often seen there. The homestay is only a few minutes’ walk from the reserve entrance, which is ideal for an early start. The family gave us such a warm welcome. Rani cooked a delicious supper and served it in her home. She also runs a laundry service, which we didn’t need, but would have been useful if we’d stayed longer.

She made everything easy for us, from booking tickets for a cultural show to pointing us toward a good spa. When we accidentally paid her QR code incorrectly, she was honest and returned the money. Our room was spacious and had a nice view, and the stay felt very comfortable. I'd recommend the place.

We could watch Indian Bison and deer grazing from the shared balcony, which was lovely. The room was spacious and clean, and the location was great. There’s no food at the property, though plenty of good options nearby. Hot water for showers is available in the morning. We had a nice stay.
