There are six or seven rooms at Silent Summit Cottage, and I found them tidy and clean. I’d pick an upper-level room: it’s airier, and there’s a small balcony-like sitting area. The cottage looks neat, with the office beside the main gate, where the staff also stay. It has a kitchen and restaurant, and the cook was usually working. He made me chicken curry and chapatti, and was flexible about food if the ingredients were on hand. There’s no set menu, so ask what’s available, or head into town to eat. This isn’t really a homestay in the sense of a family living there, at least when I visited, though many of the usual homestay features are present. It’s a pleasant place to relax outside your room, but there isn’t much else to do on site. The cottage is about 500m from the Kumily bus station. Walking is possible, but an auto rickshaw is a better choice because parts of the route climb uphill and it’s easy to miss a turn. At night the road to town is dark and unlit, and it has potholes, so carry a torch if walking and watch your step. Staff can help arrange an auto. It’s a nice stay, though a little tucked away.
