Golden Kang Lachen

The buffet was great, and the food and service were amazing. The rates were very reasonable too. The hotel is centrally located, but the website information about the view is misleading: rooms on the first floor don’t look over the valley or mountains, so we had to leave the room to see them. Our request for that view wasn’t accommodated. The bed heaters take a while to warm up, and the hotel doesn’t provide heaters, which was highly uncomfortable at 0°. We also didn’t like people standing outside our door smoking.

The food was good, and the staff were helpful. Just be aware the restaurant closes at 9:30, so they’ll push you to order by 9 PM. Lachen is tiny, which makes the hotel easy to find. Jio mobile service doesn’t work there, while Airtel works well. The hotel has traditional decor and looks cool. Bathrooms are clean with running hot water, and the beds have heaters installed for comfort.

The view from our room was great, with a snowy mountain peak visible from the balcony. The rooms were good and the hotel was easy to find, though there was a very strong smell in the bathroom that lingered even after they sprayed room freshener. I guess it came from the wood polish. Food choices were very limited, with only a few menu items available, but the preparation was good. The manager was helpful in guiding us on the trip to Gurudongmar. Overall, a good stay.

The rooms are a bit small, but cozy and do the job. We were only there overnight for a brief stay. Food was decent, with a good vegetarian spread. Hot drinking water in the rooms, wooden floors and walls, and bed warmers made it nice and comfy.
