The Nomad's Cottage-Losar Spiti Valley

It was a comfortable homestay with a nice, homey feel, and the service was fine. The food tasted good, but the prices were steep: one vegetable dish with roti cost 500, and there was no room service, so we had to go out to the dining area even in the cold. The heating and hot water also need attention. After a power cut, we had to wait for electricity to return before getting hot water. The boiler still wasn’t enough for a bath, so we often boiled water in the kettle. With below-freezing temperatures outside and in the room, that was a hassle. The bed warmer took more than two hours to make the bed warm enough. More reliable hot water and power backup, along with more reasonable food prices, would help.

The dinner was filling and good, and the caretakers were genuinely caring and hospitable. We stayed here last September on our Spiti trip, traveling from Kaza toward Chandrataal. The rooms have lovely decor that gives them an authentic local feel, and the property is well maintained. Just off the main road, it also has great views all around. A great option in Losar.

On 3.10.25, I arrived at the Nomads cottage,Losar, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, with my 53-year-old wife and younger son. My wife became severely ill with altitude sickness. The cottage management had an O2 cylinder but would not give it to her. They said the nearby hospital had no doctor or nursing staff available, and that its only O2 cylinder had been sent to a local person's home and could not be obtained. The owner made a video call to document his advice that we take my wife to Kaza, a 3 to 4 hour drive at high altitude, while leaving our luggage in the room we had been given, apparently for the rent. Knowing the risks of altitude sickness in that area, I felt he should have advised us to go down to a lower altitude with better hospital facilities, such as Manali. Other guests and my driver also urged me to head toward Manali. We managed to get there with an O2 can, and my wife's condition improved after we arrived.

The setting at Nomads is stunning, and the service, food, and facilities were all top-notch. Our room was so cozy, especially with the bed warmers. We enjoyed every bit of our unforgettable stay.
