MR Residency Madurai by Goroomgo

The location was very good, with excellent restaurants close by. The owner and manager were both very nice and gave us helpful information and support. It's a good hotel for one person or bachelors. The management also has a villa for families, which I'll try next time.

We waited two hours to check in, even though the manager had told us several hours earlier that the room was ready. When the staff shift changed, the next person refused to give us the room we’d been assigned, saying nobody had told him, even with the keys right in front of him. The middle of the beds sagged so much that it felt level with the edges when lying down. I’d also paid a security deposit by phone while booking. At checkout they said they had no cash and would return it through Google pay, but the money never came and they stopped answering calls. Maybe this only happened to me.

The hosts were kind to me, and the spot is quiet and clean among residential homes. There’s also parking for a bike inside the property. But my single room was very cramped, with a hard bed and no ventilation, and it got stuffy enough to give me a headache. The bathroom was tiny, hard to shut the door unless you stood over the Indian toilet, had no lock, and came with an old, dirty bucket and mug. The walls hadn’t been cleaned, and people had spat in the corners, perhaps because there was no bin in the room. I asked for bathing soap but didn’t get any, and mosquitoes were everywhere. There’s no food service either. If you want a clean, roomy place with good hospitality, this isn’t it.

The staff were really nice, and the rooms are small and have TVs, though I didn’t try mine so can’t say if it worked. The bed was awful. It was so old that it made a lot of noise whenever I moved, and I couldn’t sleep much. Keep the window shut if you don’t want mosquitoes coming in. The toilet has an Indian style closet.
