The only real plus is how close it is to Meenakshi temple. The rooms are awful, the bathroom latch doesn't work, the AC drain pipe empties into the bathroom, and the taps leak. There are plenty of other hotels in the neighborhood, about 100 you could book. I couldn't get the hotel I wanted because I was arriving in Madurai at an odd time, but I'd only suggest this lodge if no other hotels are available.
We left without checking in after waiting over 20 minutes with no one around to help. The check-in process was confusing and disorganized, and the front desk staff were rude and unwelcoming from the start. The lobby was dark, dingy, and nothing like the online photos. I can't comment on the rooms, but given the service and the state of the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
The room was in poor condition, and the AC didn't work. The manager was uncooperative and shouted at us for no reason. The hotel management was very rude. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
We couldn't visit even one temple and ended up stuck in the room for a day. The bus we were supposed to take never took us after the staff argued with us. They treated us badly, demanded more tip money, and said they wouldn't take us where we wanted to go if we couldn't pay. The bathroom was in bad shape too, with water leaking from the wash basin. I'd say find somewhere else to stay.
The temple is only about a five-minute walk away, and the staff were good and helpful. We paid 1400 for a room for three, and the four of us managed comfortably. The AC worked really well. Our room was 904 on the fourth floor, and it was clean, including the bathroom, towels, beds, and pillows. Other rooms might not be as good, though, so check yours before you pay.
