The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai

We had a view over the city toward the temple from our room, which was in a separate building. The room was lovely, spacious, and clean, and the bed was large and very comfortable. The food was excellent, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. They also accommodated our requests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Silpa, Puja, and Evin at the front desk were especially supportive, helping with everything and going above and beyond to make the stay comfortable and special. Please pass along my thanks to them. The food was excellent, and I really appreciated the birthday cake they arranged. It was such a thoughtful touch for my celebration. Gateway Madurai is a beautiful destination, and the team's attention to every detail made the stay seamless and memorable, a true "Gateway" experience with Taj. Everything, from the lovely property to the hospitality, was perfect. I'd highly recommend the resort to anyone visiting Madurai. Thank you for such a memorable visit.

The in-house restaurant was all we used, with à la carte lunch and buffet breakfast and dinner. Every meal was delightful, and both buffets had lots of variety. The property was peaceful, with resident peacocks adding a special charm, and our clean, well-maintained room had a lovely view. We stayed at Gateway Madurai for two days. Check-in was smooth, and Mr. Pandian and the team gave us exceptional service through checkout. Mr. Pandian arranged all our travel to Meenakshi Amman Temple and Rameshwaram, and even found a mechanic when our car had a problem. Our driver, Mr. Karthikeyan, also helped make darshan at both temples go smoothly, which made the pilgrimage much easier. The stay and service deserve a solid 5 stars, and we'd be very happy to return.

The property looks beautiful, but the upkeep fell short of what we expected. Our room looked clean at first glance, yet didn't seem to have had a proper deep clean. The restroom in the main lobby was very dirty, which surprised us given the hotel's reputation. We were travelling with our 3-year-old daughter and found very few simple food choices for kids. At our recent stay at Great Madurai by GRT, the staff were thoughtful and gave our child complimentary food and special attention, which made things much more comfortable. We regret choosing Gateway by Taj instead of booking GRT again. I hope the hotel improves its maintenance and becomes more family-friendly.
