With the monsoon making beach outings difficult during our September visit to Malvan, we spent our time at the homestay instead. The balcony was a pleasant spot to sit, relax, and eat, and the Malvani fish curry and prawn fry were delicious. The owner was kind and helpful, and the place itself was clean and well kept. The one little letdown was that the TV recharge hadn't been done. I'd still recommend it for a peaceful, enjoyable holiday in Malvan.

Our family stay in Malvan was awful. The owner was rude and behaved badly, with an egoistic attitude and no apparent customer service or housekeeping skills. The rooms, toilets, bedsheets, and pillows were dirty and smelled bad. There was no housekeeping at all, and during our four days we weren't given even one towel or dustbin. I can't understand the positive reviews. I wouldn't recommend this third-class homestay to anyone traveling there.

The owner was the main problem: he acted arrogantly and egoistically, swore at us, and even threatened to withhold food during a disagreement. I didn't feel this was a safe or relaxing place. The basics were disappointing too, with no TV and dirty towels and bedsheets. A terrible stay. Avoid it.
