Hotel Shoolin Comforts

I’m still going through physiotherapy after what happened, and I’ve spent 14000 trying to recover. I asked for a small stool to put my suitcase on because there wasn’t anywhere else for it. Swetha Kariappa at reception refused, so I had to lift it onto the bed myself. That gave my back a bad jerk and left me unable to walk. We’re senior citizens and had some basic needs, like extra water bottles, which are chargeable and weren’t an issue for me. Instead, we got a lecture about what a 3-star hotel is, as if we didn’t know. When we arrived, Swetha Kariappa had seemed nice and welcomed us, but that was before payment, as often happens at hotels. The management should understand what hospitality means. A luggage holder costs only 1500, yet apparently they can’t provide one while still knowing how to loot guests. They don’t have food either. Pathetic. Guests have to climb stairs just to reach reception. The only good thing is that there’s an Apollo pharmacy for getting medication after what you guys do. I advise people never to choose this hotel. I don’t know why Booking.com recommends it.

The rooms are spacious, and Deepa deserves a mention for being willing to help and doing everything she could for us. But the service was slow and pathetic, and most people seemed indifferent to customers. Sharan was especially unhelpful and couldn’t have seemed less bothered, even after learning we had an elderly guest with us. I’d say to book one of the several sea view homestays instead. This place isn’t worth even 1/10 of the price. Don’t stay here if you have any other options in Mangalore.

The airport is very close, which was handy for an early flight, and the staff gave us reliable airport cab contacts. We also liked being near the Village Restaurant, which delivers tasty food to the hotel, a nice option after a long day. At Shoolin Comforts in Mangalore, our room and washroom were both spacious, clean, and well maintained. It felt like a 3-star hotel. Highly recommended for a comfortable, convenient stay near the airport.

We stayed three nights, and the experience was decent overall. This isn’t quite a proper hotel, and we hadn’t realized there was no restaurant. You’re dependent on Swiggy or Zomato, though they do bring those orders to your room. They can also get food from a nearby restaurant, but it’s a set menu. You can’t just order tea or coffee, you have to get breakfast with it. Our room was cleaned only once during the three nights, and that was after we asked several times. The location is right at an intersection, which isn’t ideal. For the same price, I think you could find a better, proper hotel.
