Hotel Kumar Plaza

We went from 1st May to 3rd May 26, and it was a very good experience. The hotel is right in Matheran market, which is a prime location. Arrangements for the kids' play area, activities, games, and dance floor were all handled systematically. The food was good too. Visit with friends or family for a good time.

The stay and location are good, and the indoor areas are clean and well maintained. We also had a lot of fun with the evening live music, karaoke, and games. I've been here for the third time in eight years and usually come to kumar plaza whenever I visit matheran. I still think the stay alone is good value, and the rooms and service caused no issues. When we cancelled the food package for the next day, they refunded us without arguing, so I can't complain about that service. This time, though, the food was a letdown. I visited around 2018 and again in 2022, when both food and service were good. Now the taste was just okay and the quality was poor. There were no peas in the aloo mutter, and the serving staff said guests had picked them out, which was a really silly answer. The counter bowls were empty, and it took over 20 minutes to refill them. Veg kolhapuri was far too spicy for us, so we tried dal chawal, but the rice was undercooked and still had plenty of water in it. If even dal chawal goes wrong, what is a guest meant to eat? Chaas also took about 20 minutes. Breakfast wasn't better. The misal was bad, the bread was burnt, and pineapple sheera was the only other choice. There was just one fruit, no nuts or honey for the corn flakes, and only one small bowl for serving them. At high tea, the biscuits were fine, but the tea had no taste. A kid could make better tea. I wouldn't take the food package. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants a two-minute walk away. As a place to stay, it's good and worth the money, but the food needs a lot of improvement.

Please don't bring your family here if you want a peaceful stay. Our check-in was meant to be at 12, but the room wasn't allotted until 1. It was an average room and not well maintained, and hot water was only available from 8 to 10 am. Our room faced the pool, which was open from 9 am to 5 pm, but there seemed to be no rules about when guests could use the area. Different groups came and went from 6:30 in the morning until 3 the next morning, drinking beer, smoking cigarettes, and using bad language. Three college girls were there drinking and smoking until 3 am. It was a horrible experience. Don't pay to have your peace disturbed.

The food was well served, the children's play area was maintained, and being near the market was a plus. The property is very well kept and genuinely affordable. From outside it looks like a two- or three-star place, but the standard inside feels like a four-star property.
