Gruenberg Tea Plantation Haus

The scenery was lovely, but the stay fell well short of expectations. We spent two nights and housekeeping never came, so the room wasn’t cleaned even once. The room lacked basic amenities, including a phone to call reception. Instead, staff knocked on our door several times a day over minor things, which felt intrusive and disrupted our stay. We checked in around 2:30 PM and asked for tea or coffee, but were told it wouldn’t be served until after 4 PM. That seemed unreasonable for a hill-station resort. Breakfast was called complimentary, but there was no choice: poori sabzi on the first day and dosa on the second. They served omelettes but turned down our request for boiled eggs both days, which made the setup feel misleading. The photos show a rooftop with books, and the area is even called a library near reception, but there weren’t any books there. They didn’t provide reading material when we asked either. Despite the beautiful views, I’d rather pay a little more for proper facilities and better service. The glowing Instagram and YouTube reviews were definitely misleading.

Our room 207 was completely wrecked, and literally everything in it was in bad shape, just as other guests had reported. We wanted to leave straight away and did so the next morning. It turned out to be the best decision of our Munnar experience. The staff were friendly, though. The food and view were average for Munnar.

The staff, especially Ajesh, were the best part of my stay. Everyone was kind and attentive, and they kindly waived the final night’s charge when I had to leave early because I was ill. I’d happily return for them and for the setting, which is right among tea fields with lovely walks and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It’s quiet, and the rooms are fairly affordable. Food was easy to order on WhatsApp and brought to the room or rooftop terrace. The view up there is fantastic, and the meals were fresh, good quality, and reasonably priced. The building really needs renovation, though. The furnishings and bed covers are worn, there’s mold on the ceiling, and the windows don’t shut properly. The furniture works but doesn’t feel cozy. We also had power cuts at times and only cold shower water for one day. I’m giving it four stars for the location and wonderful staff. Thanks for the great service.

A waste of 5000 rs. I booked a mountain view room, but got a ground floor room looking at someone’s backyard. No AC. Pathetic.
