Spicetree Munnar

The scent of the first rain, the mist across the valley, and the sounds of the village made the stay feel like an authentic experience of Kerala. I was born and brought up outside Kerala, and hearing the Ramayana recital from the village below at 5.30 am felt divine. The greenery seemed so vivid that we felt we could smell its color. Early one morning, we had tea on the balcony at 5.30 while clouds drifted around us and nature provided the background sounds. Why would you need a TV in a place like this? We visited at the start of the monsoon, and it was wonderful. The muddy, uncemented village roads felt right for keeping the ecological balance in this sensitive environment. I hope the resort never changes anything around the place that could harm that balance. Yoga with Ajit was refreshing, followed by a peaceful walk around the property. Breakfast was incredibly fresh and healthy: ash gourd, cantaloupe, and watermelon juices, fresh fruit, plus the regular dishes, including a scrumptious sambar with lots of vegetables and thick chutneys. The food options were delicious, and the executives were dedicated to making us comfortable. We spent two wonderful nights in nature. The resort's own trekking was closed because of the downpour, so we walked and trekked by ourselves on the muddy trail, enjoying the sights and smells of the monsoon. Best experience ever.

We spent a week at this gem, and the time just flew. It's tucked into an intimate setting where you can really connect with Munnar's nature. The luxury rooms are beautifully designed, the service is bespoke, the food is delicious, and the spa made the stay even more relaxing. Can't wait to come back.

Every meal we ordered over our four days was to die for. Huge credit to the chef and restaurant team, especially our friend Surej, who was caring and hospitable and took time to explain each dish with such passion. The spa massages were incredible and deeply relaxing too. Reception looked after us wonderfully, even surprising us with a room upgrade at the end. Spice Tree, Munnar was our first stop in India and our honeymoon stay, and it set the bar unbelievably high. From arrival, the staff took such warm, genuine care of us. The hotel is nestled in lush forest and cardamom trees, with a divine, calming scent all around. We can't recommend it enough for honeymooners or anyone wanting a peaceful break from everyday life. It'll always hold a special place in our hearts.

The dining room and service are very, very good. We also had complimentary yoga, then a tricky but fascinating guided walk. Back at the hotel, we joined a local masterclass in Kerala-style cooking and had tea in the tea room. We're having a lazy day, and this is a perfect location if you're touring India. From the moment you arrive, you can tell the place is special. We love South India, especially Kerala. The welcome was relaxed and informative, and after the usual formalities we were shown to a beautiful room with an indoor shower and bath. Outside there's a plunge pool or Jacuzzi with stunning views. It feels like we're in the middle of nowhere, even though we're not. Highly recommended.
