I skipped the Kareri Lake trek, but explored nearby offbeat village trails, crossed a scenic river bridge downhill, and did a short 5-6 km uphill trek to Durga Mata Mandir. You can see it from the Zostel, and the views from there are amazing. The property is beautiful, peaceful, well maintained, and has a calm, secluded feel. Nitesh Bhai and Sunil Bhai were warm and supportive, and made me feel at home. The amenities were great overall, though the table tennis rackets need an upgrade. One thing that could be better: the café amenities and lights in the common area and at the bonfire shut down around 9:30 PM. Travellers often like to hang out late, so keeping those available longer would improve the stay. Still, it’s a really nice, quiet place surrounded by nature, and I’d recommend it for a relaxed mountain break.

The location worked well for a quiet staycation, away from the hustle, and the balcony views were nice. Taxis are easy to find for getting around. But it’s far from the tourist spots, so it’s not ideal if you plan to do lots of sightseeing. Each trip will cost somewhere between 1500-2000rs. We stayed three nights in a standard room over New Year’s weekend. I asked for a toilet roll and never got one. When I asked again, I was told to take it from the pantry myself. In our friends’ room, the basin and commode were extremely close together, which made the toilet uncomfortable to use. The food was very disappointing and bland. I’d eat elsewhere unless you’re fine with basic options like sandwiches or parathas. The place has both charms and drawbacks, so whether it suits you depends on the kind of stay you want.

This was a terrible stay and didn’t feel like a vacation. There’s no cellular network, and power cuts are frequent with no generator backup. The Wi-Fi and AC were completely unreliable, the AC barely worked, and there wasn’t even a ceiling fan. In summer, the place is unbearable. I’d strongly advise against staying here.

The people and staff had a magnificent attitude and gave excellent service. The setting was pleasant, and the scenery was absolutely mesmerizing. A once-in-a-lifetime experience. I’d recommend it a million times 😊!!

I wasn’t as impressed by the staff as I’ve been at other Zostel properties. They could have been friendlier and more cooperative. Also, while getting there by bike, car, or taxi is decent, the last 1 km is rough and narrow, so a sturdy vehicle is a good idea. Public transport is limited, so plan ahead. The property itself is massive, more like a resort than other Zostels I’ve visited, with sprawling grounds. I loved the unusual capsule rooms and their cozy little beds. They’re a clever, space-saving option for solo travellers or anyone wanting a snug, private nook with river or mountain views. There are two swimming pools, a rare treat for a hostel, with breathtaking mountains in the background. The common areas are impressive too, and the in-house bar and café make it easy to get a drink or meal without leaving. The food was delicious. It’s a fantastic escape if you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, and a social vibe in a beautiful natural setting.
