Cancio's House

We’ve been visiting since 2016 and have known Roberto and Raquel for a decade. They’re so warm and welcoming that each time we visit, we feel like staying longer. Cancios house is a lovely homestay in the small village of Aldona, away from the noise. You feel close to nature and can spend peaceful time there. One of the best reasons to stay is Raquel’s home-cooked meals, which have become core memories for us.

Raquel's cooking is still on my mind. The beef vindalho and chocolate cake were the best I've ever had, and each meal left me amazed. Cancio’s House itself is full of little details and traces of the wonderful family who live there. My friend said it felt like stepping into another era, away from today's fast, mechanical pace, and I know what she meant. I came with my friend and her baby, and felt completely at ease, as if I were living my own life among new friends. We spent time talking with Raquel and Roberto and sitting in the garden. The rooms are lovely and so comfortable that I slept long, quiet hours. They even put a crib in the room for the baby. Aldona is a beautiful getaway from Goa's usual spots. I can't wait to return.

A walk around Aldano was a nice change of pace. We hired a scooty from Jeetu for a day, and stopped for a refreshing quick lunch by the Mapusa river at Mhambrey Bar, across from St Thomas Church. During a daytime walk we also came across a small stream where locals were fishing for time pass. We stayed at Cancio’s House from 18th to 20th January 2026. The place is full of greenery, and the whole visit was lovely. Roberto was always ready to help, whether watering plants, lending a hand in the kitchen, or singing along with his guitar. Raquel (Mrs Roberto) welcomed us with a generous lunch on arrival and made excellent soup for dinner. She also baked a chocolate cake at home as a birthday surprise for my wife. Their three sons, Harman, Antenio and Raffel, helped their parents with different chores. Harman sang and played guitar for birthday songs for my wife. Roberto’s mother and mother in law were lovely company, and a little cutie, daughter of one of the 2 helps, brought extra life to the house. It was a great experience.

We chose Cancio’s Guesthouse for our wedding stay, and being there made those days feel more personal and meaningful. The house is beautiful, well kept, and has authentic Goan character. Mr Roberto and Mrs Rakheil were so warm and attentive, helping with everything we needed during such a busy, emotional time. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.
