Hotel Shompen

Mr. Lalu ji, the restaurant manager, really made the stay for me. He was so warm and welcoming, checked that guests were comfortable with their food and asked how their trips were going. He also tried to help with food requests whenever he could. After a tiring day, that kind of hospitality was wonderful. The food is great, and the open-roof restaurant has a good view. This is a budget hotel, so the deluxe rooms are the cheapest option and shouldn't raise expectations too high. Mine felt cramped, with a tiny window only a little larger than a ventilator, though it was clean and had basic amenities. Good food at a budget hotel.

We stayed three nights at Hotel Shompen. The property is right in the heart of the city, and our clean, spacious room had the other amenities we needed plus a private balcony overlooking the city. There’s a rooftop dining terrace, and the service was good. The food quality was satisfactory, too. Mr Lalu in the dining area was polite and cooperative.

The location is good, and I liked the open bar area. The restaurant is on the rooftop, but breakfast choices are limited. Our executive room was quite small and had no windows. The bathroom smelled a bit, and the towels seemed as if they’d been stored for a long time without being cleaned.

The rooftop restaurant and garden lounge make for a pleasant place to eat, and the food is often tasty with good service. Staff hospitality is friendly, too. Hotel Shompen is a decent place to stay, with rooms that are generally clean and comfortable and have modern amenities. Some travelers do find a few rooms small or in need of better upkeep, and service can be inconsistent at times.
