The bathroom was basic and outdated for the tariff, and service standards and guest handling need improvement. There was no room service for tea or coffee, and the manager said food room service wasn't available from the leased restaurant on the premises either. The one good part was the room I eventually got after arguing with the manager. It had a good view, though pigeon netting on the balcony partly blocked it. I stayed at Hotel SUV Palace, Puri on 4th February, in Room No. 420, paying ₹3500 off-season, and found the experience disappointing and misleading. The room was sold as “swimming facing,” which naturally sounds like a swimming pool view. But the balcony faced another hotel/building, whose name happens to include “Swimming.” Even though I requested photos by email, none were sent. Ask for actual room view pictures before booking, because the description gave me the wrong expectation. If you've experienced even basic comfort or expect transparency in room descriptions, this hotel may not meet your expectations. Better options in Puri in the same price range offer better service and clearer communication.

SUV Palace is right on Marine drive, closest to the beach, and really does look like a palace. You can see the sea from your room, and Mitra Cafe just below is a great place to eat. The people are friendly and always ready to help. The only drawback was the lack of a lift, which makes the stairs difficult for elderly people.

The sea beach is right across the road, and there’s a Mitra Cafe downstairs on the ground floor. The rooms are nice, and the staff clean the room and bathroom every day, so everything felt very hygienic. Service was good too, and you probably already know the food at Kolkata’s best Mitra Cafe.

We stayed at SUV Palace several times from 2013 onward and used to count it among our favourites. Rajiv Gosh, the manager, had always been nice to us. That changed in 2023, when the balcony window glass fell and shattered on the floor. We were frightened enough to decide to leave. As we were checking out, a manager who wasn’t Rajiv Ghosh said they wouldn’t refund us and would hold our luggage until the next day. He also pressured us to hand over the keys, even though we’d paid for the room through the following morning. We used to recommend the hotel, but we don’t anymore. Apart from its location, there’s nothing good about it.
