OYO 1949 Hotel Surya Garden

We booked five rooms, and all that money felt wasted. The rooms looked nothing like the pictures, and rubbish was scattered through the garden and the rest of the hotel. Even drinking water wasn't provided. When we asked for things, staff kept replying, “We don’t know,” and were extremely rude. The manager was no help and behaved terribly. The rooms were worse than a dharamshala. Of all the places we've stayed, this was by far the worst. If you visit Jagannath Puri, please don't stay here.

In my two days there, I found that the price online could be very different from the price in person, depending on the person. They don't provide bills, including at checkout, so they can charge different people whatever they want. The photos on the OYO app and Google Maps Review look nice, but don't rely on them. You can go see the place yourself, and if you're lucky, maybe one of the rooms will be somehow clean. The choice is yours. Hope you find somewhere better to stay.

The property has a nice lawn and a good location, and the security guard was the most polite person there. But the rooms need maintenance, and management should hire better behaved, more educated employees. The reception guy was impolite and repeatedly asked me to open my OYO app and hand it over, maybe so he could rate himself. Traveling with family, I was first shown old, damp ground-floor rooms that smelled musty, then got alternatives after insisting. Electricity backup was available but took time, and there were flies in the rooms. The bathroom was very dirty, the bed uncomfortable, and the pillows filthy. Breakfast for four arrived on two plates. When I asked for more, the person on the phone said that's how they serve it; two empty plates were sent, but we ended up sharing.

The beach is very close, and the temple is about 800 meters away, so the location is good. There are two kinds of rooms here. OYO bookings get the cheaper, average-sized rooms, which are quite old and have no service. The more comfortable, modern premium rooms are well served, but can only be booked offline. In the off season, those cost 2000 for 2-3 people.
