The Mango Villa

I haven’t stayed here. I’m giving one star because of what happened while booking. I made a planned reservation through a third-party travel portal after checking its cancellation terms. Two days later, staff from Mango Villa contacted me to say their hotel or homestay policy didn’t match those terms. I found that strange, since I understood that properties registered on portals like booking.com and makemy trip provide their consent to the booking terms. My booking allowed cancellation without charge up to a certain date, but Mango Villa staff said their policy would charge 10% even for cancellations made more than 15 days ahead. We decided to cancel through the same portal and stay elsewhere. They said there was a discrepancy, and I’ve attached the proof image for reference. It seems hotels and homestays want the easy marketing and customers from third-party portals, but when something goes wrong or doesn’t suit them, they blame the portals and act innocent. Lesson learned: I’ll probably check with a hotel or homestay before booking through a portal next time, to avoid later surprises, hidden charges or different policies.

We found The Mango Villa, Ratnagiri clean, hygienic and well maintained, and our stay felt comfortable and homely. The staff were courteous and hospitable, and cooked delicious local meals. A wonderful experience, we’ll come again.

The Mango Villas in Ratnagiri showed very poor hospitality, and the management seemed unprofessional. Staff were rude and didn’t appear to care about guests’ comfort. They provide no basic facilities for drivers. Drivers aren’t allowed inside or even to sit on the sofa, which felt cheap, disrespectful and unhygienic toward both guests and their drivers. I’d tell people not to book here. If you still plan to stay, don’t bring your driver, as they’ll be treated very badly.

I booked through MakeMyTrip for one evening. The room was very nice, with a huge bathroom, shower and mini geyser. There’s parking for about two SUVs, I’d say, though I arrived on my motorcycle from Pune. Staff were very courteous, and the cook made the simple food I asked for: Chappathi and Moong Dal for lunch, then Dal kichadi for dinner. There are more options on the menu. Only breakfast is included with the booking, and it’s available at 9am. I was leaving early, so I’ll make do with tea. Overall, a great choice.
