Shiv Shakti Hostel

I spent three days here with a friend and loved the food. The meditation was really nice too. After our retreat, I wanted a break from Tapovan's dust and noise, and this turned out to be a great choice. It's surrounded by beautiful nature, with a lovely river where you can go for a dip. The cottages are much nicer than the rooms, though they cost a bit more. I can't recommend this place enough!

The dorms were nice and had hot water, but I won't recommend Shiv Shakti Hostel. I've stayed in many hostels in Rishikesh, and I didn't like this one at all. This was my second visit, and as a solo traveler I was quite disappointed. There was no clothes stand or even a thin rope for drying washed clothes, which is a basic thing in most hostels. I told the staff several times, but nothing changed. I had to figure out a jugaad myself last time too. When I asked for help, they only offered their laundry, which was too expensive for a budget solo traveler like me. The water cooler also took ages to fill a small bottle. I reported it more than once, but nothing was done. On top of that, a drunk guest from Delhi picked a fight with me over a very minor thing.

The room was damp and musty, with serious water seepage in the walls. Paint and plaster were peeling around the electrical switches and light fixtures, which felt like a major safety hazard. Basic maintenance seemed completely neglected. Avoid this place if you care about your health and safety.

Really enjoyed it. The rooms were clean, the vibe was great, and the staff were super friendly. Everything felt easy and comfortable, and the location is well connected too. Highly recommend!
