Rohet Garh

The grounds were the best part for us, with lots of space, green lawns and comfortable places to sit. This 400 year old fort has been turned into a hotel, and the stay was pleasant, though it could have felt magical. Our room (2) was tired, the bed uncomfortable, and the bathroom could use some basic improvements. The breakfast and supper buffets were simple but perfectly acceptable.

My three weeks in India had no moment more joyful than sitting in the hotel garden among its lovely lawn, trees and petunias, listening to traditional music with a gin and tonic in the evening. Each morning I went up to the top terrace overlooking the lake for a little peace before heading to the Jodhpur sites nearby. The hotel shop run by Mr Sharvah Das was another highlight. I bought many gifts and souvenirs there because the quality was much better than elsewhere, and Mr Das was patient and helpful with suggestions. The prices were very reasonable for the quality. The hotel was the highlight of my trip. It's in a pretty, very safe village with the friendliest local people, and has magnificent gardens, historic architecture, heritage respecting decor, and cheerful, helpful staff. Dinner was delicious, breakfast was good, and the bar was well stocked and very reasonably priced. I wish I'd stayed longer than two evenings. Thanks to everyone for making it magical.

The New Year Gala dinner was a huge letdown. We had high hopes, but the menu was very limited and everything else was chargeable. The regular menu is limited too, and for what they charge, the facilities are very lacking. You can get better facilities elsewhere for the same rate. I wouldn't recommend the property.

It's about an hour from Jodhpur. A very nice heritage property with friendly people and really good service. In winter they even have live music and a bonfire. The food tastes nice, though breakfast choices are limited.
