OYO 75956 Hotel Grand

For the roughly ₹1500 I paid for one night, it was a mixed stay. The hotel is handy for the railway station and the room layout was decent, but the bedding smelled strongly as if it hadn’t been washed in ages. The water came in old reused plastic bottles, which didn’t seem hygienic. My AC remote wouldn’t properly adjust the temperature, and the next morning there was a big rat casually moving around near reception. After I complained, staff brought a replacement blanket that night, but it still wasn’t really clean, just less smelly. The rooms are nicely built, but cleanliness and maintenance need serious work.

I’d come from another hotel that was very bad, so the atmosphere at Hotel Grand felt really good. The management and authorities were easy to approach, and I appreciated how genuinely they did their work. They made my stay comfortable. The one thing keeping me from giving five stars was the bedsheet. They could upgrade the decor items, but otherwise everything was good.

The rooms on the first and second floors were in shocking shape: very dirty, smelly walls and a bed with a terrible odor. It felt so unhygienic I worried I’d get sick if I stayed longer, and nothing like the online photos. I stayed two days at Hotel Grand in Rourkela and was charged ₹400 extra each night, ₹800 total, without a valid reason. The AC shuts down after load shedding, so I had to call reception and say, “Sir, AC nahi chal raha”; then they would give me the switch. The person who showed me the room at 10:30 PM made it sound good, but that wasn’t the reality. It seems they prefer offline bookings, and online guests through OYO or other sites are likely to get the worst rooms. The pictures and ratings online felt misleading, and I felt cheated. I travel 15-20 days a month and stay in lots of hotels, and this was among my worst experiences. They also don’t properly accept cards, or charge an extra 1.5% when they do, which I haven’t seen at most good hotels. Maintenance was underway, which is a positive, but renting rooms in their current state is unacceptable. Think twice before booking. The AC waiting hall at Rourkela Station would be cleaner and more comfortable. Hotel management should clearly display the extra card charge at reception so customers aren’t misled.
