Ramathra Fort

The lake setting makes this one of the most scenic forts we’ve stayed in. The old ruins have been kept and blend naturally into the newer architecture, and the gazebo out on the promontory has breathtaking views. Every room looks toward the valley and mountains, with the first floor luxury suites offering a wider panorama through French windows that open onto a balcony. The rooms are comfortable, and even without a TV we didn’t miss having one. We came with my 86 year old mother-in-law and were unsure about the stairs, but the staff sent videos showing there weren’t many and arranged a wheelchair. They were very warm and the owners took a personal interest in making sure we were comfortable. Meals were always freshly made, though the menu felt limited for a small place; a little printed daily menu would have been handy, especially to know what dessert was. The family bonfires under a starry sky were lovely, and seeing so many stars is rare in Delhi. It’s a peaceful escape from crowds and pollution. We’d happily visit again and recommend it for a short break. Hope the owners get more forts, and we’ll remain their guests!

There aren’t any shops or restaurants nearby, so we ate all our meals at the fort. Breakfast was amazing, especially the popular omelettes, and the service was great. We stayed for two nights in this beautifully restored fort in a quiet rural spot, and wished we had more time. There’s also a small shop with gorgeous craftwork.

The lake was calm and clean, with migratory birds around it, and the surroundings felt like something out of a novel. That 'almost' infinity jacuzzi is hard to describe, you have to experience it. We had amazing food and hospitality too. We visited at the end of December and the winter weather was mild, so plan your timing accordingly. Lord Shiv ji's temple is next to the property, and we stopped there for blessings. This gem was an unplanned one night layover on our way to Kaila Devi Ji's mandir, but it was the best resort visit ever. Kudos to the owners for maintaining it. We’ll definitely come back again and again.

The hosts and staff really take care of you, including making sure you’re fed. A quiet, lovely spot to unwind and calm frayed nerves, with beautiful views and surroundings.
