HN Guest House

The rooms were passably clean, but hot water was a constant problem during our three-night stay at H N Guest House on Harisava Road in Shillong. There was a centrally located geyser that seemed to provide hot water only at set times, so outside those windows we had to wash with icy water in the hill station winter. When hot water did come through, it poured from every tap, even the cold taps and the jet spray, and was nearly scalding. The basin tap in our room didn't work, and the administration couldn't fix it while we were there. Things started badly with a power outage when we arrived. The staff struggled to get the generator running, and I wisely avoided the lift because I doubted the generator could keep it going. Room keys were also scarce. The hotel used a master key to access some rooms, which didn't give me much confidence about the security of our belongings. They didn't offer laundry service either. With all these problems, I can't recommend staying here. I'd warn travelers to avoid it unless they want the same miserable experience.
