Red Pine Guest House (Indians Only)

They don’t have a kitchen, so breakfast is the only meal they serve. The dinner they bring in tastes really bad. The rooms were good, though. The geyser wasn’t working in the evening, but they got it fixed later. Overall, it was a good place to stay.

The price was reasonable, which made this a fair budget option for our short trip to Shillong. The rooms were average and facilities basic. Nothing special, but it was manageable for a brief stay.

The gates shut at 10:30 sharp, so you can’t go out after that. I felt trapped inside, especially when we wanted something to eat and couldn’t make Maggie because there was no kettle. The room was tiny, like a single room made to fit two people, and there were no water bottles, kettle, tea, coffee, or toiletries. Water came in a plastic jug. There wasn’t a geyser switch in the room, so we had to go to reception to turn on the heater. The phone didn’t work either, meaning a trip to reception for everything. Staff were very rude and the owner was irresponsible. Please don’t stay here if you have another option. You’ll regret it. The attached photos show what I mean.

I’d avoid this guest house, mainly because the staff’s behavior was very bad, especially the owner, Mr. Subrata Mukherjee. Blankets weren’t very clean, there was no parking, and the kitchen I hired was awful. Hot water would also be stopped from time to time. The rooms are about what you’d expect for the price, and the ones with a view are good, but the others aren’t as nice.
