Hotel Sidharth Regency

Hotel Sidharth Regency claims to be near Mall Road, but the rooms felt cheap, ugly, and unhygienic. They were tiny and dirty, with no slippers, drinking water bottles or dispenser, cupboard, locker, or other basic facilities. The sheets were dirty too, and the room and pillows smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The bathroom was smelly and poorly maintained, and the geyser didn’t work. Cleanliness was shocking. This was one of the worst hotels I’ve seen, not worth the money and below even basic hospitality standards. I strongly don’t recommend Hotel Sidharth Regency. Stay away if you want a peaceful, hygienic stay.

The staff were helpful and cooperative, and we enjoyed our three days at sidharth regency. Rooms were good, and bathrooms were good too, though they could be better. It’s a 10 minutes walk to mall road. Food seemed costly to me, but they made it the way I wanted, which I really appreciated. They also provide rides for your tour. That’s the only thing I’d suggest improving, the bathrooms.

The agreed amount was ₹5,500, but after check-in the room owner demanded extra money and didn’t honor the promised price or commitments. Staff and owner were rude and unprofessional. Cleanliness was poor, and the blankets didn’t seem to have been washed properly. Many customers were frustrated by frequent electricity problems and poor service. The place didn’t feel safe for families or girls. A very disappointing experience.

We were only about 500 meters from the hotel, hauling our suitcases over slippery roads, when the owner called and angrily asked when we would arrive. Then he abruptly cancelled our booking. We’d reserved 15 days ahead, paid ₹1000, and kept checking during the trip that our room was still held. He reassured us each time. Traffic turned a 2.5-hour bus trip into nearly 12 hours. By the time we got there it was late, snowing, freezing, dark, and the roads were blocked. We were exhausted. We’d asked about a cab because we had heavy bags, and he quoted ₹1000 for a 5-minute ride. He also offered a ₹3000 Kufri package. Since delays had already cost us most of our first day and we had only one day left, we politely declined both and said we’d walk or take the bus. When we called back after the cancellation, he said he’d already given the hotel to someone else and there was nothing he could do, then asked why we were so late. He knew we were a group of women, including three international guests and two from out of state, and that it was peak season and snowing. It felt like our confirmed room went to someone willing to pay more, just 15 minutes before we arrived. The change in his manner was hard to miss. While booking he’d been overly sweet, calling us “behenji” and acting caring. After we turned down the expensive cab and tour, he became cold, rude, and hostile. He did refund the ₹1000, but that didn’t help us find somewhere to sleep. Every other hotel was full, and we were left dragging our bags through dangerous conditions, frightened and helpless. This was irresponsible and inhuman. Is this how “behenjis” and women travelers are treated? Don’t book here if you value your safety, especially as a woman or a group.
