The Mapple by OYO Rooms

We stopped here for one night while travelling from Darjeeling to Kolkata. The location is great, and check-in and check-out went smoothly. Staff were cordial, and the room was okay for a typical budget hotel. But the bathroom was extremely dirty and unhygienic, with flies and little worms. I’d have given it 3 stars if the bathroom hadn’t been so disgusting.

The room smelled bad, and though it had been locked for a long time, they wouldn’t move us to another room even though plenty were empty. The bathroom was unclean and two taps were leaking. We woke in the middle of the night because of mosquitoes, and had to kill at least 20-25 of them before we could sleep peacefully, despite the fallout they provided. They asked for 300 rupees for my husband. They also didn’t provide free breakfast because we were leaving at 7.30 am and breakfast starts at 8.00 am. It was a horrible night with mosquitoes.

The top floor rooms are newly built and good, and the room itself was good. There’s no lift, so getting to an upper floor takes some effort. Room service wasn’t good, though, and the bathroom tap water smelled bad. I reported it 4-5 times, and they said they had cleaned the water tank, but I didn’t notice any change.

I stay here for work every other month, and they always give me a spacious top floor AC room. The food and breakfast are okay. Water flow in the washroom can be a bit low because it’s on the top floor, but it’s manageable. Overall, it’s good.
