Hill Woods Cottage

It felt less like staying somewhere and more like joining the family. My 2-year-old son happily played with their 3-year-old daughter, and we all had a lovely time. The owners live nearby and hosted us personally with genuine warmth, politeness, and humility. They showed us their coffee estate and private waterfalls, explained how they harvest and process coffee beans, and shared how they make their homemade wines. We visited on Sep 7th, and it was a truly memorable stay. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Coorg.

The host suggested some beautiful places and arranged transport even at odd hours, which made the trip easy. This is a lovely homestay in the rural beauty of Coorg district of Karnataka, with very helpful owners and family. The food was on another level, and he recommended several local dishes. Dinner was included, but the value was much more than that, and the portions were unlimited. We all had a very enjoyable stay.

The family treated us warmly during our three nights at Hillwoods Cottage in May 2024. Mr. Mache showed me around his farm, introduced me to native plants, and made us special teas with medicinal plants. We loved the farm fresh food and getting to try local dishes we hadn't had before. Our rooms were clean and bright, and the service and hospitality were fabulous. He also suggested places to visit, including local spots tourists don't often go to. This review is long overdue, and I've already recommended the place to relatives. Thank you, Mr. Mache and Mrs. Asha, for making our time there so enjoyable. We were two female travelers, and Mrs. Asha and the whole family made us feel welcome.

We spent December 2023 at this fantastic cottage in Somwarpet, and the garden, coffee estate, waterfall, and homegrown vegetables make it easy to stay in and enjoy the view. Machaiya uncle and his family were lovely hosts, and he took us hiking to viewpoints on his estate. The cafe served us a delicious continental lunch one day, and we bought excellent packaged coffee made from beans grown on their estate. Aunty cooked fantastic meals, and breakfast and dinner were delicious with unlimited portions. There's a bonfire on request too. Somwarpet has much less crowding than Madikeri, with greenery, hills, coffee estates, waterfalls, and lakes all around. It's a hidden beauty, and a must visit. We were two female travellers, and I'd especially recommend it to women traveling solo or in groups, as well as families. The cottage has an old British style, and we had an amazing stay.
