The late-night arrival set the tone for a frustrating stay: we reached around 11:00 p.m. and found the main gate locked. It took nearly 20 minutes to get someone to open it, and there wasn’t proper 24-hour reception service. The room itself was just about big enough for two, but even though we booked online for more people at a higher rate, we got the same room with one extra mattress. The mattress was in poor condition, and the lighting in the room was too dim. Cleanliness was acceptable, though not at the level I’d expect for a hotel at this price. The rooms feel old-fashioned and aren’t well maintained, and the amenities don’t justify the high tariff. The location is a plus, close to Haflong Lake and within walking distance of the circuit house, with good views of the surrounding hills.

The staff were so polite and helpful, and breakfast had a nice range of more than three options. We stayed in late March, when the weather was lovely. Our room was roomy, with a comfortable bed and a direct lake view. The property has a beautiful old British feel, while still having the modern amenities we needed.

The food was good, and the staff were all polite and quick to respond. The location worked well too. There’s no backup power when electricity goes out, though, and the rooms could use more upkeep and a nicer look. Still, it was a nice place to stay.

The ambience needs attention, and the garden needs proper care to make the place feel like a hotel instead of a bhoot bunglow in the middle of the jungle. The infrastructure needs repairs and maintenance, and the owner should keep an eye on how the place is run and how guests are treated. Our blanket cover was torn and dirty, and staff weren’t readily available to help. Worst stay ever.

The food was the best part, and the staff were good. It’s a beautiful old hotel in Haflong’s main town, with parking available. The rooms are old too, but they have a nostalgic feel.
