Zaitoon Homestay might suit people who want to stay outside the city and don’t plan to explore much. The owner behaved well, and we were given enough blankets to stay warm. But the room rent is high. At 600-800 it would be fair, otherwise it feels overpriced. There’s no restaurant nearby, the food quality wasn’t good, and there’s no housekeeping. The rooms don’t have a TV, Wi-Fi is very slow, and hot water isn’t available around the clock. Backup power is only an inverter, enough for one bulb and phone charging. Getting to any city attraction costs Rs 300-400 each time by auto because the place is far from the tourist spots.

The home is a long way from Dal Lake and the local sights. Each one-way auto or taxi ride costs Rs 200-300. Staying near Dal Lake would be better, since from this location you could end up paying about Rs 700 a day in taxi fares on top of what you’d pay for a room near the lake.
