Hermitage Hotel

We left early in the morning and had to manage our own baggage. A staff member was asleep in the corridor and never offered to help, and there’s no elevator. The toilets also smelled all the time, and cleanliness was zero. There was no restaurant service because of an LPG shortage. The hotel is down a very narrow lane where cab drivers won’t agree to pick you up or drop you off. A disastrous stay for a family with a child. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The location was the one good thing, and the balcony was nice. Breakfast was average: just two dishes and toast, with nothing else to order, though what we had tasted good. My stay was only one night, and I overlooked the room’s visible wear, broken shower head, tap problem, and the lack of tissues while towels were also in short supply. Towels weren’t available at check-in because of a temporary laundry issue. They only came after repeated requests at the end of the day, just before I had to check out the next day. There’s no lift either. The guy at the desk with a tattoo around his arm was extremely rude and had no manners. He refused to bring my luggage up to the second floor, so I had to go back downstairs and argue before he sent it. His tone ruined my whole trip and made me lose respect for the hotel. The other guy who got the towels was good, and the manager or supervisor spoke well. But the staff member’s behaviour wrecked an experience that was already hanging by a thread. If you don’t know how to treat guests, find another job. I wouldn’t recommend staying here; you can find a better hotel just a stone throw away.

The staff were helpful and cooperative, and there’s a restaurant in the hotel. Its central spot in Rishikesh made it easy to walk to places like the ghats, cafés, and Lakshman Jhula. We had a very comfortable, pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

There was no set breakfast time, and the room came without toiletries. I even had to ask for a towel. The bathrooms were so dirty I felt disgusted using them. The old hotel needs restoration, with cracks, fungus, and yellow marks all over. The owner should be ashamed to give people rooms like this. I’m adding photos of the room. Please don’t book if you don’t want your trip ruined.
