We booked ahead with breakfast included, but the hotel wouldn't serve us breakfast even after I showed them my recipes. I ended up filing a complaint with the booking platform. I stayed at Hotel Swaroop Retreat, now called Hotel Tip Top, and it's hard to find because nobody seems to know the original name and there's a different hotel name on the same property. This was a miserable stay in Tapovan, Rishikesh, and I can't recommend it. The rooms were damp throughout, with old, dirty bedding, and the smell made it hard to sleep. The bathrooms smelled too, and had no geyser, hot water, or exhaust fan. The prices aren't lower than other hotels, so you could book somewhere else for the same money. Germs or bacteria could get into your body in those conditions. Book at your own risk. I've attached photos, and I'm sorry this review had to be long, but I wanted to show what the experience was actually like.

The rooms were dirty and smelled like they hadn't been cleaned. Cigarette butts were scattered around the balcony, which made it a really bad place to stay with family, especially with our 2.5-year-old child. We had paid the full amount through Oyo, but at check-in they demanded another 3000 rupees because it was New Year. With no refund and nowhere else to stay, we were forced to pay. The people at and around the property didn't seem kind or safe. I wish hotels could get a negative rating. Stay somewhere else.

We booked through a third-party app, but the hotel name had changed to Tip Top Hotel. The room they gave us was in really bad condition, and the TV was broken too. I wouldn't recommend it.

The flushing cistern didn't work, and it took several calls before they managed to fix it. We booked a 12 by 10 room but got a 10 by 10 one instead, apparently because they wanted to make more from weekend tourists. The staff weren't cooperative and said we'd have to pay extra to get the room we booked. The worst part was being told we could file a complaint or cancel through the Oyo website.

What we got wasn't worth the price. The room didn't match the photo and wasn't properly hygienic. The AC and shower weren't working right, and at check-in there was no set-top box or landline for service calls.
