The backwaters made a lovely view, and the beach was less than a two-minute walk away. It was a great area for birdwatching, and we even spotted river otters and jackals. We ate breakfast and dinner there for 4 days. The home cooking was delicious, with vegetables some days and seafood on others, and every breakfast was different. Our host was warm, friendly, and respectful, which made the whole stay easy and peaceful. Thanks for having us!

The river view from our room was full of birds, and the beach was just a short walk away. Sha and his wife looked after us wonderfully, and her cooking was a real treat. We had breakfast and dinner at the homestay every day, with varied, delicious meals. My partner and I planned to stay three nights at Sha’s homestay, then added one more because we loved it. We only went into Kannur once since everything we needed was nearby. It’s a peaceful spot to escape the noise and chaos of a holiday in India, with nature all around and the care we needed to truly relax.

If you’re after resort-style luxury, this isn’t the setup. But for an affordable, clean and hygienic stay surrounded by nature, with the beach close enough for morning or evening walks, it worked perfectly for me. The place is so quiet and tucked away, just right for slowing down and getting a break from city stress. Shah was a welcoming host, and his homely service stood out. The food was simple but tasty, and chatting with him taught me a lot about Kannur and Theyyam traditions. It felt like a connection to local culture, not just a place to sleep. I couldn’t catch a Theyyam performance this time, but I hope to return to see one. I enjoyed my stay and would strongly recommend it.
