Svatma - A Luxury Heritage Resort

I arrived a few hours before my scheduled check-in and asked whether I could get into the available room early. They wanted ₹6,000 for just two hours, even though my full-night booking was ₹4,600. I understand reasonable fees, but that didn’t seem fair. Check-in staff weren’t cooperative, and some facilities listed on the website weren’t available. There also seemed to be poor coordination between management and staff. It’s a large property, and that kind of disorganization could hurt its reputation. I’m offering this as feedback. I hope management sets clear, transparent early check-in charges and keeps the listed amenities available, so guests know what to expect and the hotel can improve.

The heritage décor and atmosphere are beautiful, and I’d gone in with high expectations. But maintenance seemed neglected: there were cleanliness problems, and the staff weren’t especially prompt or proactive. For the price, I didn’t feel it was good value. Those small issues made a real difference to the stay.

I stayed with my family, including THREE kids under 10, in two rooms that cost about ₹9000. The experience was disappointing throughout. Their website lists a Millennium Deluxe Room at 12k, which is very high, and I’m glad I didn’t book directly with them. At 10 PM, staff demanded ₹3,000 for an extra bed under “hotel policy,” nearly 70% of the room cost for one bed. After we argued, they brought it down to ₹1,500, but it was an unnecessary hassle so late at night. At check-in we were promised a complimentary buffet with five kinds of dosas and five kinds of eggs. The actual breakfast didn’t even have basics like eggs, bread, butter, jam, or cornflakes. The food was just okay, not great for a HERITAGE RESORT. Our room and bathroom were dirty and poorly maintained. The bathroom hot water didn’t work at all. The TV had no channels and wasn’t working. Room service came after I complained, photographed the set-top box, and said they’d recharge it, but never followed up, so it stayed out of order. The swimming pool looked unclean and badly maintained. I strongly recommend keeping children away from it. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially for families with kids. Management needs to improve its honesty, cleanliness, and service.

The lunch ended with another letdown: the ice cream tasted synthetic, overly sweet, and low quality, nothing like what you’d expect here. It appeared on the bill as “natural ice cream.” We checked closely and caught that, but nobody had mentioned any genuine natural ice cream options. That suggests poor communication between management and staff. We also found no health faucet in the restroom, which was surprising and inconvenient, especially in South India where guests reasonably expect one. We’d called ahead after reading good reviews to confirm lunch was available, then came after several temple visits with hungry children. The service was extremely slow. Some ordered dishes never came, and we only learned at the last minute they weren’t available. We had to ask repeatedly for cutlery, plates, and water. When plates finally arrived, they were dripping wet, and we waited another ten minutes for tissues so we could wipe them. One serving bowl was badly chipped, raising concerns about hygiene and attention to detail. The manager told us there was a banquet lunch for 40 guests, apparently to explain the delays and lapses. That shouldn’t excuse the problems. If the team can’t handle in-house dining and a large group at once, they should limit bookings or not open lunch to outside guests then. For a boutique hotel charging ₹125 for a palm-sized phulka, these basic shortcomings were unacceptable and didn’t match the standards suggested by the price. It was a deeply disappointing visit, and I hope they take the feedback seriously so future guests don’t have the same experience.
