KTDC Periyar House Thekkady

We even spotted two Porcupines 🦔🦔 wandering freely around the grounds at night. This stay at KTDC's Periyar House in Thekkady felt peaceful and adventurous, right in the heart of Periyar Wildlife Santuary, with dense forest all around and almost complete silence. Arrive before 5pm because the Santuary gate closes then, and visitors can't walk outside the House grounds at night. Internet inside the santuary is absent or poor, but the receptionist gives visitors WiFi ids and passwords.

The rooms were comfortable, clean, and kept in good shape, and the staff were courteous and ready to help. The food was simple but tasty, and the stay felt safe and relaxing. We enjoyed the quiet, green setting inside Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary at KTDC Periyar House. A lovely choice for a peaceful forest visit close to wildlife, especially for families and people who enjoy nature.

We had a delightful stay in the jungle, and the property is well located. The staff were kind and helpful, and they made sure we didn't miss animal sightings. When elephants wandered onto the property at night, they even woke us up. The building itself is old, which is somewhat expected of government-run hotels and resorts in India.

The boating point is about a 10-minute walk away, and if you book a room, they can arrange your boating ticket. A side seat is best for spotting animals and taking photos, though seeing elephants or tigers is just luck; otherwise you might see birds and wild boars. There's a separate fee for the boating. You can walk around and take in the forest, but entry isn't allowed after 5:30 PM, and you can't drive out to eat after that time either. The food there is good but a bit expensive. Bring your own vehicle if you can. There's also a children's park, and everyone should find something to like here. It's quiet, peaceful, safe, and a place where you can spend time with nature. The staff are very well mannered and extremely helpful. It's a unique experience, and I highly recommend it.
